Conner Smith Receives Misdemeanor Citation After Fatal Accident

Country singer Conner Smith received a misdemeanor citation following a tragic car accident that resulted in the death of a 77-year-old woman, Dorothy Dobbins. The citation was issued by the Metropolitan Nashville Police Department on July 10, 2025, after the incident that occurred a month earlier.

On the evening of the accident, Dobbins was crossing a roadway in Nashville when she was struck by a pickup truck driven by Smith. The police report indicates that the accident took place around 19:30 local time. Initial investigations revealed that Dobbins was in a marked crosswalk at the time of the incident. Despite being taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center, she succumbed to her injuries.

According to the police, Smith allegedly failed to yield the right of way to Dobbins, which was a significant factor in the fatal accident. The report noted that he showed no signs of impairment at the time of the incident. As the investigation continues, no additional charges have been filed against him.

In a statement, Worrick G. Robinson IV, Smith’s attorney, expressed the singer’s gratitude for the thorough investigation conducted by the police. The attorney emphasized that Smith is committed to honoring Dobbins‘ memory and is actively supporting initiatives aimed at enhancing pedestrian safety to prevent similar incidents in the future.

Smith’s legal troubles have not deterred him from his career, though he has not publicly commented on the situation. His most recent social media post, shared just one day before the accident, showcased a performance and reflected on his connection to his hometown.

The incident occurred shortly after the CMA Fest, a popular four-day country music festival held in Nashville, where Smith had been gaining recognition. Recently signed to Big Machine Records, the 24-year-old was nominated for the New Male Artist of the Year at the 2024 ACM Awards, following the success of his hit songs, including “Creek Will Rise” and “Learn From It.”

As the investigation unfolds, many in the country music community remain focused on the impact of this tragedy, keeping Dobbins’ family in their thoughts during this challenging time.
