Upcoming Meetings and Celebrations
The Wyoming Valley Real Estate Investors Association is hosting its monthly meeting on Tuesday, November 25, at 7 p.m. at Grotto Pizza, located at 337 Wyoming Valley Mall Road in Wilkes-Barre Township. The meeting will feature guest speakers, including attorney Miriam D’Elia and representatives from United One, Heather Steber and Jenny Centrella. New members are welcome, with a visitor fee of $15 applied to the yearly dues of $85 upon joining. Refreshments will be served.
In celebration of the holiday season, the 20th Annual Toys for Tots Open Skate will take place on Wednesday, December 3, from 6 p.m. to 8 p.m. at Mohegan Arena at Casey Plaza. Participants are asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy for donation or make a $5 contribution. Attendees must bring their own skates as rentals will not be available at the arena, but are offered at the Toyota SportsPlex.
The Slovak Heritage Society of Northeastern Pennsylvania will celebrate the Feast of St. Nicholas on Sunday, December 7, at 2 p.m. at St. Ignatius Loyola Church, 339 N. Maple Avenue, Kingston. The event will feature songs and storytelling reflecting past Christmas traditions, with refreshments provided. Attendance is free, but a free-will offering is appreciated.
Festive Gatherings and Fundraising Events
Wilkes University will host its 14th annual Wigilia on Sunday, December 7, at 1 p.m. at Amber Palace, located at 228 George Avenue in Wilkes-Barre. This event will showcase traditional Polish foods and Christmas carols. Scholarships from Wilkes University will also be presented during the gathering. The cost to attend is $35, and RSVPs are required by Wednesday, November 26.
The Pi Beta Gamma Club of Wyoming Valley will hold its Christmas party on Sunday, December 21, at noon at Wyoming Valley Country Club. Guests are welcome, and RSVPs should be submitted by Friday, December 12.
In Edwardsville, the Hometown Committee will host a Christmas lighting event on Friday, November 28, starting at 6 p.m. in downtown Edwardsville. Attendees can enjoy hot chocolate, cookies, and a visit from Santa Claus.
Nanticoke will organize a Christmas fundraising food and rummage sale on Saturday, November 29, and again on Saturday, December 6, at Transfiguration of Our Lord Ukrainian Catholic Church. The sale will feature homemade pierogi, clam chowder, and gently used holiday items, with proceeds supporting community needs.
The Warrior Run Volunteer Fire Company is set to host a Gift Card Bingo on Sunday, November 23, with doors opening at 11 a.m. and games commencing at 1 p.m.. Participants can win prizes totaling $5,000 in gift cards. Refreshments will also be available.
