Chicago Bears Fans Flock for Free Hot Dogs After Coach’s Stunt

UPDATE: Chicago Bears fans are once again lining up in droves for free hot dogs, all thanks to head coach Ben Johnson‘s shirtless celebration following the team’s recent victory. The excitement began early this morning, with fans braving the 23-degree Fahrenheit chill outside The Wieners Circle starting at 5 a.m..

At 7 a.m., local bakery S. Rosen’s delivered 2,000 hot dog buns to ensure the hungry crowd would be satisfied later in the day. As the clock struck 11 a.m., the iconic hot dog stand in Chicago’s Lincoln Park finally opened its doors, handing out free hot dogs alongside its signature witty banter. Fans erupted in chants of “Thank you, Ben Johnson!” as they waited eagerly in line.

This thrilling giveaway follows a similar event in September, when the stand offered free hot dogs after quarterback Caleb Williams threw four touchdowns in a game. The idea was sparked again after Johnson’s playful act of taking off his shirt post-game after the Bears’ 24-15 win against the Philadelphia Eagles last Friday. Johnson flexed and shouted, “They’re hungry for some hot dogs!” igniting the crowd’s excitement.

“What a team player. He’s got to be one of the best coaches ever,” said Emma Kreis, operations manager at The Wieners Circle. “Seeing this all come together again has been so wholesome.”

The Bears are making headlines for their first winning season since 2018, currently leading the NFC with a remarkable record of 9 wins in their last 10 games. Fans’ enthusiasm is palpable, as many come not just for the hot dogs but for the communal spirit that defines being a Bears supporter.

Among the lines, first-time visitor KJ Gaiter shared his determination to support the team, despite the cold weather. “The line was wrapped around the corner when I came, but I decided that no matter the weather, I wanted to be here supporting the Bears,” he said, waiting 45 minutes to enter the hot dog haven.

Interacting with The Wieners Circle’s comedic staff is part of the experience. Employees are known for their humorous insults, adding to the festive atmosphere. One customer, Dennis Shim, braved the day in a bright purple Baltimore Ravens sweatshirt and embraced the playful ribbing from the staff.

As the line progressed, camaraderie blossomed among fans like David Wright and Shim, who discussed their shared love for the Bears. “There’s only one team in Chicago that everybody rallies around,” Wright said, emphasizing the unique bond among fans.

As the day continued, the line gradually shrank, but the excitement remained. Local resident Graeme Phillips humorously reflected on his past experiences at The Wieners Circle, noting the store’s “Wall of Shame” for eccentric outfits. “It’s just amazing — bringing together people from so many backgrounds,” he said.

As customers enjoyed their free hot dogs, the atmosphere at The Wieners Circle showcased the heart and humor that defines Chicago sports culture. The future remains bright for the Bears, and with Johnson leading the charge, fans can expect more surprises ahead.

Fans are left wondering what will come next: will other players join in the fun, or will Johnson top this moment with another memorable stunt? Stay tuned as the Bears’ season unfolds and the excitement continues to grow!
