BREAKING: Patricia “Pat” Lea Jones, aged 99, has passed away peacefully on August 24, 2025, while under hospice care at Edgewater Assisted Living in West Des Moines. Her family has confirmed that there will be no funeral services, honoring her request.
Born in Creston in December 1925, Pat lived a rich life filled with love and laughter. She married Paul R. (Bob) Jones and resided in various locations including Iowa City, Cedar Rapids, and Urbandale, before settling in West Des Moines. Pat leaves behind a legacy of warmth and kindness, deeply cherished by her family and friends.
She was preceded in death by her husband Bob, parents Zoe and Fred Cochrane, and siblings Bill Cochrane, Jean Balius, Helen Pelmulder, and Venetia Blakely. Pat is survived by her brother Ben Cochrane, daughters Kathryn Troup and Susan Grant (David), grandson Jeff Wehling (Lori), granddaughter Deborah Shoemaker (Gipson), and great-grandchildren Ethan and Emily Wehling, Gipson and Jake Shoemaker.
Pat was known for her generous heart, delightful sense of humor, and passion for life’s simple pleasures. Her love for cooking, baking, gardening, and spending time with family created lasting memories that will be treasured forever. The joy she spread is a testament to her character, and she will be missed by all who knew her.
In her final years, Pat continued to inspire those around her with her kindness and spirit. Her family expresses gratitude for the care she received at Edgewater and invites anyone wishing to honor her memory to consider planting a tree in her name through the Des Moines Cremation service.
