Doris R. Chambliss, a beloved figure who reached the remarkable age of 100, passed away on November 5, 2025. Born on September 17, 1925, in Louisville, Kentucky, she was the daughter of the late John and Jennie Rogers. Doris was predeceased by her husband, Henry Lyons Chambliss, and was the last surviving sibling among her brothers and sisters, John T. Rogers, F. Kenneth Rogers, Phillip Rogers, Eleanor R. Laun, and Marion R. VanHise.
Doris dedicated over 30 years of her life to the Jefferson County School System, where she served as the secretary to several assistant superintendents. Her commitment to education and her colleagues was evident, and she retired in 1992. In 2008, she relocated to Suffolk, Virginia, to be closer to family. Doris spent her final years at the Commons of Centerbrooke until 2019, when she moved into her daughter’s home due to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Legacy of Family and Community Involvement
An active member of Christ First Church in Suffolk, Doris maintained strong connections with her community. She is survived by her daughter, Judy Diane Chambliss Boswell; granddaughter, Jennifer Boswell Rockey; and two great-grandchildren, William Henry Rockey and Abigail Lee Rockey. Additionally, she is remembered fondly by her sister-in-law, Ann Rogers, and many other family members, including nieces and nephews scattered across the country.
Doris celebrated her 100th birthday in style on September 21, 2025, surrounded by family and friends, some of whom traveled from out of state to honor her. The celebration was a grand affair, reflecting the love and admiration her family held for her throughout her life.
Memorial and Donations
To honor Doris’s memory, the family plans to hold a private celebration of life for close friends and family in the near future. Those wishing to make memorial donations can contribute to the Suffolk Humane Society, located at 3118 Kings Hwy, Suffolk, VA 23434, as Doris had a deep affection for her dogs, Leo and Otis, whom she cherished dearly.
