Richard L. “Rich” Townsley, aged 90, passed away on November 8, 2025, at his home in Oley, Pennsylvania, surrounded by his family. His death marks the end of a remarkable life dedicated to family, community service, and a strong commitment to his faith.
Rich Townsley was the beloved husband of Mary (Dissinger) Townsley, with whom he shared an enduring partnership of 63 years. Together, they built a family that includes four children, Theresa Apgar, Jeffery Townsley, Deborah Bender, and Steven Townsley, as well as 12 grandchildren and 22 great-grandchildren. His legacy is one of love and cherished memories.
A Life of Service and Passion
Born in Reading, Pennsylvania, Rich was the son of the late Jesse M. Townsley and Caroline S. Townsley. He graduated from Wyomissing High School and pursued further education at Polytech. Rich’s professional career as a machine and pipe designer showcased his technical skills and dedication to his craft.
As a proud U.S. Army Veteran, Rich served his country and continued to exemplify a spirit of service throughout his life. For over 50 years, he was an active member of Friedens Lutheran Church, where he contributed to the community and practiced his strong faith.
In addition to his professional and community engagements, Rich enjoyed various hobbies. He was passionate about woodworking, fishing, and cycling, participating in more than 50 rides to raise funds for the National Multiple Sclerosis Society. His love for games extended to being an avid and competitive player of cribbage and other card games.
Memorial Service Details
Rich’s memorial service will be held on Thursday, November 13, 2025, at 10:00 a.m. at Friedens Lutheran Church, located at 1076 Memorial Hwy, Oley, PA 19547. Family and friends are invited to gather beginning at 9:30 a.m. Following the service, burial will take place at Forest Hills Memorial Park.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests that memorial donations be made in Rich’s honor to the National Multiple Sclerosis Society or the Miller-Keystone Blood Center. Edward J.
