Urgent: Two Wheelchairs Found on North Rim Trail, Investigations Underway

BREAKING: Two wheelchairs were discovered on the North Rim Trail in Bidwell Park, sparking an urgent investigation by local authorities. The Chico Police Department and other law enforcement agencies are examining the situation, with indications that the wheelchairs may have been stolen, as they displayed identifiable medical stickers.

This alarming find comes amidst a series of violent incidents reported in the Chico area from July 9-15, 2025. Authorities confirmed multiple assaults and burglaries, raising concerns about public safety. Of particular note, a man reported being assaulted and nearly slashed with a bottle on East 10th Avenue, leading to immediate medical attention at Safe Space Chico’s cooling center.

In a separate incident, a woman was attacked outside a business on Esplanade, where she was reportedly beaten by two individuals who stole her belongings. The pattern of violence has residents on edge, with numerous reports of assaults and robberies occurring throughout the week.

Authorities are also investigating several burglaries across Chico and Oroville. One notable case involves a theft of tools valued at approximately $5,000 from a job shed on California Street. In another incident, a man was caught entering a home uninvited, claiming he was looking for water.

Additionally, there have been reports of vandalism, including a cut chain at Horseshoe Gate, where two vehicles disappeared shortly thereafter. This spate of criminal activity is prompting law enforcement to increase patrols in the affected areas.

Residents are urged to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to local authorities. The police have not yet linked the found wheelchairs to any specific crime, but their presence adds to the growing concerns about safety in the community.

As investigations continue, the Chico Police Department and the Butte County Sheriff’s Office are working closely to address these incidents and ensure the safety of the public. Updates are expected as more details emerge.
