URGENT UPDATE: Massachusetts is bracing for a significant drop in temperatures tonight, with freeze and frost warnings set to take effect at 11 p.m. on October 26, 2023. The National Weather Service warns that this cold snap will bring the coldest air of the season, impacting many areas across the state.
Residents should prepare for widespread frost, particularly in inland regions where temperatures could plunge to as low as 25 degrees Fahrenheit. Coastal areas, including Cape Cod and Nantucket, are the only regions expected to escape these chilling conditions.
The freeze warning covers critical areas such as Berkshire, Bristol, and Hampden Counties, as well as eastern Hampshire, western Essex, and southern Worcester Counties. Notably, the warning affects all but the northwestern tip of Middlesex County and extends to Plymouth and Norfolk Counties, excluding coastal communities.
As the night progresses, temperatures are forecasted to hit their lowest just before 7 a.m. on Friday. Residents in affected areas are urged to protect crops and sensitive vegetation from potential damage due to the freezing conditions.
In contrast, Friday’s daytime temperatures are expected to rise into the low 60s under sunny skies, although overnight lows will fall back into the low 40s and upper 30s. Saturday will bring slightly warmer weather with highs in the mid 60s, but temperatures will again dip into the low 50s overnight.
Looking ahead, the forecast indicates the possibility of showers beginning after midnight on Sunday, persisting through both Sunday and Monday. Daily highs will remain in the low 60s and upper 50s, with overnight lows dropping into the upper 50s and low 40s by Monday.
A coastal flood watch is also in effect for areas along the Massachusetts coast, beginning Sunday morning and lasting through late Monday night. Residents are advised to stay informed about changing weather conditions and prepare accordingly.
Stay tuned for further updates as this situation develops. Massachusetts residents are encouraged to share this urgent weather information with neighbors and friends to ensure everyone stays safe during this cold snap.
