URGENT UPDATE: Los Angeles Police are urgently seeking public assistance to identify potential victims of a man using stolen personal identification to fraudulently rent apartments. The suspect, known only as Igor, has allegedly targeted properties in Hollywood and Larchmont, raising concerns among renters and property management companies.
Authorities from the Los Angeles Police Department (LAPD) revealed that the suspect completed rental applications using the personal details of others, coupled with counterfeit cashier’s checks. Detectives with the LAPD’s Commercial Crimes Division are taking swift action, believing there may be additional victims who have unwittingly been caught in this scam.
In a statement released earlier today, police described Igor as a Black adult male with dreadlocks and a beard or goatee. They have released a photo of the suspect in hopes of prompting further leads from the community.
“Detectives are releasing the suspect’s photo because they believe there may be additional victims,” the statement emphasized. The urgency of this matter highlights the need for vigilance among renters in the Los Angeles area, especially as the housing market remains competitive.
Victims or anyone with information about this case are strongly encouraged to contact Detective Juan Campos at 213-486-5995 or via email at [email protected]. For those wishing to remain anonymous, tips can be submitted to the L.A. Regional Crime Stoppers Hotline at 800-222-8477 or through www.lacrimestoppers.com.
As the LAPD continues its investigation, renters are reminded to exercise caution when providing personal information and to verify the legitimacy of rental offers. This case serves as a stark reminder of the risks associated with housing fraud, particularly in high-demand areas like Los Angeles.
Stay tuned for further updates on this developing story as the LAPD works diligently to address this urgent issue.
