UPDATE: A tragic house fire in Middleboro, Massachusetts, has claimed the life of a 91-year-old woman early this morning. The devastating incident occurred just before 3 a.m. at a multi-family residence on Everett Street.
Firefighters from the Middleboro Fire Department responded swiftly to the scene, where they were met with intense flames erupting from multiple windows on the first floor of the two-story building. Due to the severity of the blaze, additional firefighting units were dispatched from surrounding towns to assist.
Inside the home, firefighters discovered the elderly woman, who tragically could not escape the inferno. She was pronounced dead at the scene. Remarkably, three other residents managed to evacuate safely before firefighters arrived.
The fire was extinguished within approximately 30 minutes, but the cause remains under investigation. Authorities from the Middleboro Fire Department, the Plymouth County District Attorney’s office, and the State Fire Marshal’s office are currently working to determine how the fire started. As of this report, there are no indications regarding the origin of the flames.
“This was a tragic situation,” commented Middleboro Fire Chief Owen Thompson. “Unfortunately, this was the third fatal fire within two years in the Town of Middleborough. However, our firefighters responded professionally, doing an excellent job attacking the fire and extinguishing the flames, especially given the extent of the fire they encountered upon arrival.”
The name of the victim has not yet been publicly released. This incident serves as a grim reminder of the dangers posed by house fires, particularly for vulnerable populations.
As investigations continue, community members are urged to stay vigilant. Further updates will be provided as more information becomes available.
