Two individuals, including a juvenile, tragically drowned in separate incidents along the Russian River in Sonoma County on July 30, 2023. According to the Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office, these incidents occurred just hours apart, prompting a swift response from emergency services.
Just before 15:00, first responders were alerted to Monte Rio Beach, located at 20400 Bohemian Highway, following reports of two juveniles struggling in the water. A bystander managed to rescue one of the youths, but the second juvenile could not be immediately found. After approximately 20 minutes of searching, responders located the second juvenile. Despite immediate attempts at resuscitation, including CPR, the individual was pronounced dead on the scene.
In a separate incident occurring at 15:49, a man was discovered unresponsive in the waters of Martinelli Beach, situated north of Jenner. Emergency personnel attempted CPR; however, the man was also pronounced dead at the site.
The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office expressed its condolences to the families and friends affected by these tragedies. They stated on social media, “The Sonoma County Sheriff’s Office extends its deepest condolences to the families and friends of the deceased. Investigations are ongoing, and further details will be released once they become available.”
