BREAKING: Chapeau!, the beloved Parisian bistro in San Francisco’s Inner Richmond, celebrates 27 years of culinary excellence while introducing exciting new dishes to its classic menu. Co-owners and chefs Philippe and Ellen Gardelle have been serving authentic French cuisine since 1996, creating an inviting atmosphere that feels like home.
“We meet strangers every day, and sometimes they become friends,” Ellen shared, emphasizing the restaurant’s community spirit. With a menu that showcases French classics like escargots, coq au vin, and creme brulee, Chapeau! is a testament to the Gardelles’ commitment to quality and hospitality.
Chef de cuisine Andrew Gardelle, their son, has made waves with his innovative approach while respecting the restaurant’s roots. “It’s important to always be bringing some change but to also maintain the identity this restaurant was built off of,” Andrew stated. His culinary journey has included experiences at various restaurants before returning to Chapeau! six years ago.
Philippe reflects on the restaurant’s humble beginnings, stating, “We started with no money, and so we couldn’t hire a manager. We had a chef and a dishwasher to start, and that’s it.” This hands-on, family-driven approach has been integral to their success.
The Gardelles pride themselves on providing exceptional hospitality alongside their delicious food. “Make sure people also get taken care of. Make them laugh,” Ellen advised. This philosophy has allowed Chapeau! to flourish as a cherished dining destination.
Located at 126 Clement Street, Chapeau! continues to be more than just a restaurant; it’s a part of the community fabric. As they look to the future, the Gardelles remain committed to quality and innovation, ensuring Chapeau! adapts while preserving its French bistro charm.
For anyone in the San Francisco area, now is the time to visit Chapeau! and experience the warmth and taste of Paris right in their neighborhood. Don’t miss out on the chance to enjoy a meal at this iconic establishment!
