UPDATE: A new public venue, the Ti Kaye Joan Pavilion, has just opened on George Foreman’s ranch in Harrison County, offering an exciting respite for families and groups seeking a unique gathering space. The Greater Marshall Chamber of Commerce celebrated the opening with a ribbon-cutting ceremony earlier today at 733 Blocker Road.
Chamber Director Stacia Runnels emphasized the significance of the pavilion, stating, “We just want to introduce you to this amazing respite — a place of peace and memories for the Foreman family for many years, now shared with the public.” This new venue aims to honor Foreman’s legacy while welcoming visitors for events and gatherings.
The pavilion features five cabins, ideal for large gatherings, weddings, and family reunions. Jojetta Steptoe, Foreman’s niece, shared heartfelt memories of family reunions at the ranch. “Everything was about family, so he built this place so that families could come together,” she said, reflecting on the late boxing champion’s vision for the property.
Mary Foreman, the ranch’s owner and George’s widow, reminisced about cherished moments spent by the fire and fishing at the pond. “George would sit right there in his rocking chair, and we’d light a fire for fish fry and crawfish boil. It was wonderful,” she recalled, adding that the family wants to share this special place with others instead of letting it sit unused.
Runnels praised the Foreman family for their dedication to transforming the ranch into a public venue, highlighting their efforts in beautifying the landscape and preparing the cabins for guests. “We appreciate their investment in Harrison County, engaging local vendors in the process,” she stated.
The pavilion is now open for bookings, with Steptoe encouraging those looking for a perfect gathering spot to consider the new venue. “It’s ideal for anyone with a big family wanting to get together while having their own space,” she noted.
As the community welcomes this new venue, Runnels fondly remembered Foreman’s past involvement with the chamber, emphasizing his kind spirit. “One of our favorite memories was when George joined us for our 100th anniversary banquet. His smile lit up the room,” she said, recalling his genuine and humble character.
