Carmel sophomore libero Beca Arreola is making headlines in the volleyball world as she leads her team with an impressive 7-1 record this season. After overcoming past challenges, Arreola is proving herself as a key player for the Corsairs, who haven’t enjoyed a winning season since 2021.
Just days ago, Arreola showcased her skills during a match against Marian Central Catholic, where she recorded 10 digs and maintained a remarkable 97% serving percentage with 8 aces. Her performance has solidified her status as an integral part of the team, impressing both coaches and teammates alike.
Arreola’s journey has not been easy. Reflecting on her past struggles with a club team, she recalled, “The coach did not believe in me. I knew I was a good player… I finally left the club and took a break for two-plus months.” Utilizing that setback as motivation, she trained hard and returned to the sport with renewed vigor.
Last season, after not making the varsity team, Arreola helped the freshman squad go undefeated, which led to a late-season call-up to the varsity level. “She was a huge piece of our first undefeated team ever,” said head coach David Pazely. “It got to the point where we couldn’t ignore her.” With 34 digs and 3 aces in limited action, her contributions were undeniable.
Now starting for the varsity team, Arreola’s performance is raising the stakes. Coach Pazely noted, “This year she has continued to level up her play. She covers a ton of ground on the court, is fast, and reads the game very well.” Her ability to make spectacular plays in critical moments has become a hallmark of her playing style.
Teammate and senior setter Suzy Trznadel praised Arreola’s impact, stating, “Beca changes the dynamic of the team. Her ability to read the hitter and adjust to the blockers is impeccable.” This synergy is vital as the team aims for a successful season.
Additionally, fellow sophomore and setter Charlotte Shepherd emphasized Arreola’s high volleyball IQ and relentless drive. “Her attitude on the court is always go, go, and go. She’s focused and determined to get better each play in practice,” Shepherd remarked.
Looking ahead, Arreola is determined to lead her team to success. “I want to grow with my team,” she stated. Her commitment to communication and improvement is evident as she strives to elevate not only her game but also the performance of her teammates.
As Carmel’s volleyball season continues, all eyes are on Beca Arreola, a player who embodies perseverance and passion. The Corsairs are gearing up for more challenges ahead, and with Arreola leading the charge, there is a renewed sense of hope in the quest for victory. Stay tuned for updates on her journey and the team’s progress as they push for a remarkable season.
