URGENT UPDATE: Melba Lorraine McCully, a cherished figure in the Kirkwood community, has passed away at the age of 93. She died on August 7, 2025, at Missouri Baptist Hospital in St. Louis, leaving behind a legacy of love and service.
Born on September 5, 1931, in Moberly, MO, Lorraine dedicated her life to her family and community. She moved to Kirkwood in October 2021 to be closer to her daughters, Dr. Belinda Wilucki and Melinda Dull, highlighting her deep familial bonds.
Lorraine graduated from the lower division of Moberly Area Junior College in 1949 and married her high school sweetheart, Myron Ray McCully, on August 27, 1950. Their twin sons were born while Ray served as a military police officer in Germany, showcasing their enduring partnership through life’s challenges.
A career woman, Lorraine worked at the Hunter, Chamier, and Motley law firm before joining Southwestern Bell Telephone in 1964. She rose to the position of Network Services Supervisor-Engineering and later served as the legal administrator for Orscheln Brothers Industries until her retirement in 2005.
Lorraine’s community involvement was extensive. She was a past president of the Business and Professional Women’s chapter in Moberly and a member of the Telephone Pioneers. As a charter member of Timber Lake Christian Church, she engaged actively in church life, teaching Sunday School and sponsoring youth groups.
Her impact was felt deeply within her family, as she was a devoted mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Lorraine was known for attending significant life events, ensuring she was present for performances, graduations, and weddings.
Lorraine is survived by her daughters and numerous grandchildren, including Kyle Scherzer, Stacey Scherzer, and Tim Dull, among others. She was preceded in death by her husband Ray and several family members, including her sister, Gloria Crutcher.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to Timber Lake Christian Church, reflecting the values she upheld throughout her life. A memorial service is scheduled for August 23, 2025, at 1:00 p.m. at Pathway Millard Family Funeral Chapel in Moberly, MO. Visitation will occur from 11:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. prior to the service, with a private inurnment at Missouri Veterans Cemetery in Jacksonville, MO.
The community remembers Lorraine not only for her remarkable life but also for her unwavering devotion to family and faith, making her passing a significant loss for all who knew her.
