Rode has introduced the new Wireless Micro Camera Kit, enhancing its predecessor with improved flexibility and compatibility across various camera systems. This updated kit is designed to meet the needs of content creators seeking high-quality audio solutions in a compact and user-friendly format.
The Wireless Micro Camera Kit builds on the success of the original Wireless Micro, which allowed users to connect easily to smartphones. With universal camera compatibility, the new kit expands its reach without sacrificing the ability to connect to mobile devices. According to Rode, “Building on the success of the award-winning Wireless Micro, which revolutionised smartphone content creation, the new Camera Kit takes the same celebrated pristine audio quality, simplicity, and portability, and expands its capabilities to include second-generation universal camera connectivity, catering to a broader set of content creators.”
Enhanced Features for Greater Control
Rode’s updated receiver unit features a redesigned interface, incorporating a 1.1-inch AMOLED display that allows users to adjust settings in real-time. This marks a significant upgrade from the previous receiver setup, which lacked visibility and control options. The new receiver is larger and designed for full-size cameras, providing both 3.5mm TRS and USB-C output options.
The receiver also includes an integrated cold shoe mount, ensuring a stable attachment to camera systems. This attention to detail enhances the user experience, making it easier for content creators to capture high-quality audio without cumbersome setups.
The transmitter system remains robust, equipped with built-in microphones in both units that pair automatically with the receiver. Each transmitter boasts an omnidirectional pickup pattern to capture sound from every angle and features Intelligent GainAssist technology, which automatically balances audio levels. Additionally, integrated clips and magnetic mounts provide versatility, while windshields help minimize noise from wind and plosives.
Battery Life and Availability
The Wireless Micro Camera Kit comes with a compact charging case, extending battery life to a total of 21 hours per charge with two full recharges. The receiver is designed to automatically detect when connected to a camera, powering on and off as needed.
Rode has also committed to maintaining support for existing users. The original camera receiver will remain available for those who purchased a Wireless Micro USB-C or Lightning configuration before October 30, 2025.
The new Wireless Micro Camera Kit is available for purchase at $149, providing a versatile and powerful audio solution tailored for today’s content creators. The first-generation camera receiver is sold separately, allowing users to select the components that best fit their needs.
