Krafton Launches Ambitious AI-First Strategy with Major Investments

Krafton, the developer renowned for popular titles such as PUBG: Battlegrounds and the simulation game InZOI, is embarking on an ambitious transformation to become an “AI-first” company. This new strategy aims to integrate artificial intelligence across various aspects of its operations, significantly enhancing productivity and innovation within the gaming sector.

Under the “AI First” initiative, Krafton plans to invest more than 100 billion Korean won (approximately $70 million) into the creation of a GPU cluster. This advanced infrastructure will facilitate AI workflow automation, bolster research and development efforts, and improve AI services within its games. The company anticipates that its AI platform will be fully operational by the second half of 2024.

Krafton’s commitment to integrating AI extends beyond infrastructure. Each year, the firm intends to allocate around ₩30 billion to assist employees in leveraging AI tools in their daily tasks. Additionally, the company will undergo a restructuring of its human resources and organizational operations to support this transformative strategy.

The trend of incorporating AI into business operations is not unique to Krafton. Other tech companies, including Shopify and Duolingo, have similarly integrated AI into their internal processes, recognizing its potential to drive efficiency and enhance user experiences. The shift towards AI is also influencing major gaming companies, with reports indicating that investors planning to take Electronic Arts private are banking on AI-driven cost reductions to significantly increase profits in the coming years, as noted by the Financial Times.

As Krafton forges ahead with its AI-first strategy, the gaming industry is likely to witness significant changes. The integration of AI not only promises to streamline operations but also enhances the gaming experience for players worldwide. The company’s proactive approach may set a precedent for others in the industry, marking a pivotal moment in the evolution of game development and operational management.
