Real American Freestyle Wrestling (RAF) launched its inaugural event, RAF01, on March 15, 2024, at the Wolstein Center in Cleveland, Ohio. The event marked a significant milestone for the organization, co-founded by the late WWE Hall of Famer Hulk Hogan, along with Eric Bischoff, Chad Bronstein, and Izzy Martinez. The event was broadcast live on FOX Nation, featuring commentary from notable personalities including Kurt Angle, Bubba Jenkins, and former UFC fighter Chael Sonnen.
Despite not competing as initially expected, former UFC fighter Ben Askren remains actively involved with RAF, emphasizing a strong partnership with the league. The event also saw appearances from notable guests, including mixed martial artist Tito Ortiz, wrestling manager Jimmy Hart, Hogan’s widow Sky Daily, and Hogan’s son Nick Hogan. Additionally, country music artist Alexis Wilkins performed the National Anthem, adding to the event’s celebratory atmosphere.
Leadership Insights and Future Plans
Following the event, Bronstein, Bischoff, and Martinez participated in a post-show press conference, expressing their enthusiasm about the debut. Eric Bischoff, who serves as RAF’s Chief Media Officer, highlighted the importance of realizing Hogan’s vision for the league. He stated, “For me, it’s a passion, and to be able to be a part of the team that’s helping to execute Hulk Hogan’s vision for what this could possibly be… because he was a big-ass thinker.” He added, “He thought big, and he wanted to move fast. And with these two guys [Chad Bronstein and Izzy Martinez], we’re going to think big and we’re going to move fast. We’re gonna make Hulk proud.”
The RAF press release confirmed that RAF02 is scheduled for later this fall, with FOX Nation continuing as the exclusive broadcast partner. The organization has partnered with UFC, USA Wrestling, NIL organizations, and the NCAA to create an inclusive competitive environment. This collaboration allows athletes to participate regardless of their status, fostering a diverse and competitive wrestling landscape.
