Oxfod, Mississippi – Ole Miss women’s basketball has strengthened its coaching staff by hiring Danetra Forrest Williams as the special assistant to head coach Yolett McPhee-McCuin for the upcoming 2025-26 season. The announcement was made on Wednesday, marking a significant addition to the team.
Coach McPhee-McCuin expressed her enthusiasm about Williams joining the program, stating, “I am incredibly excited to have another Ole Miss alumna in the Touhy Building with us. Dee is not only an alumna, but a true supporter of Ole Miss women’s basketball. She is also a pro in everything she does! Her impact will be felt immediately throughout our building and in the community.”
Danetra Williams: From Player to Coach
During her time as a standout player for the Rebels from 2005 to 2008, Williams made a significant impact on the court. She shot an impressive 46 percent from the field, averaging 5.5 points and 3.7 rebounds per game over 93 appearances. Williams was instrumental in leading Ole Miss to the Elite Eight during the 2006-07 season.
Following her successful college career, Williams transitioned into coaching. She began as an assistant coach at Jones County Community College, where she contributed to the Lady Bobcats achieving a 19-8 record and winning the MACJC Championship. In 2014, she took the helm as the head women’s basketball coach at Coahoma Community College, where she served for three years.
