Miami Dolphins Finalize 53-Man Roster Ahead of Deadline

The Miami Dolphins have finalized their initial 53-man roster ahead of the NFL’s deadline of 4 p.m. Eastern on August 29, 2025. This roster trim follows a series of preseason games, including a tie against the Chicago Bears and victories over the Detroit Lions and Jacksonville Jaguars. The decisions made by the coaching staff and front office were crucial, as each choice impacts the team’s depth and overall strategy for the upcoming season.

The Dolphins entered the preseason with a 90-man roster and faced several tough choices as they prepared for the regular season. The team concluded its preseason with a 14-6 victory against the Jaguars, showcasing both starters and depth players. As the roster evolves, it remains subject to changes due to potential waivers, injuries, and other transactions.

Offensive Roster Highlights

The offensive lineup includes a total of 23 players, with three quarterbacks. Leading the charge is Tua Tagovailoa, supported by Zach Wilson and rookie Quinn Ewers. While Wilson’s performance as a backup has raised concerns, Ewers is expected to develop into a strong contender for the future.

In the running back position, De’Von Achane is set as the primary runner, backed by Ollie Gordon II, who has moved into the second position. The team remains vigilant regarding health considerations and could make adjustments, including potentially placing Jaylen Wright on injured reserve.

The wide receiver corps features star players like Tyreek Hill and Jaylen Waddle, along with Malik Washington, Nick Westbrook-Ikhine, and Dee Eskridge. Notably, Tahj Washington was cut from the roster to make room for other players.

At tight end, the Dolphins have opted for Darren Waller, Pharaoh Brown, and Julian Hill, while Tanner Conner has been moved to the practice squad. The offensive line remains unchanged, featuring eight players, including Patrick Paul and James Daniels, while Liam Eichenberg has been placed on the reserve/physically unable to perform list.

Defensive and Special Teams Overview

On defense, the Dolphins have assembled a robust group of 27 players. The defensive line consists of Zach Sieler, Benito Jones, Kenneth Grant, Jordan Phillips, Matt Dickerson, and Zeek Biggers, with Biggers added to the roster for his solid performance.

The linebacker unit includes Jaelan Phillips, Bradley Chubb, and Matthew Judon, among others. Cameron Goode has also been added for his potential on special teams, while Grayson Murphy is a candidate for the practice squad.

The cornerbacks feature Storm Duck, Kendall Sheffield, and Jason Marshall, who has moved ahead of Mike Hilton on the depth chart. Ethan Bonner has been placed on injured reserve, with Cornell Armstrong stepping in for depth.

In the safety position, Minkah Fitzpatrick, Ashtyn Davis, and Ifeatu Melifonwu round out the defensive backfield, with no changes noted in this area.

Special teams consist of punter Jake Bailey, kicker Jason Sanders, and long snapper Joe Cardona. Sanders’ recent injury will be monitored closely as the team prepares for the regular season.

Overall, the Dolphins have made significant decisions to shape their roster, setting the stage for what promises to be an exciting 2025 season. As the Dolphins look ahead, they will continue to evaluate their roster and make adjustments as necessary.
