Lady Cougars Dominate Scranton to Advance in District 2 Playoffs

The Hazleton Area Lady Cougars showcased their strength in the District 2-4 Class 4A girls’ volleyball quarterfinals, defeating the Scranton team with a decisive 3-0 victory on March 15, 2025. The match, held at Hughie McGeehan Gymnasium, saw the Lady Cougars secure their place in the semifinals with game scores of 25-19, 25-20, and 25-17.

Outstanding Performances Propel Hazleton to Semifinals

Sofia Klick and Ella Radice were pivotal in the Lady Cougars’ success, combining for an impressive 31 service points. Klick excelled with 18 service points, which included two aces, alongside 19 digs, 17 assists, and two kills. Radice contributed significantly as well, serving 13 points during the match. Kali Eberts emerged as a formidable presence at the net, recording 17 kills, five digs, one block, and three service points, including two aces.

The Lady Cougars’ victory sets them up for a challenging semifinal match against the second-seeded Delaware Valley, who are the four-time defending subregional champions. Delaware Valley advanced by eliminating West Scranton with a commanding scoreline of 25-6, 25-13, 25-12.

Upcoming Matches and Ticket Information

The semifinal match between Hazleton Area and Delaware Valley is scheduled for March 17, 2025, at 18:00 at DelVal. In another semifinal matchup, fourth-seeded Wilkes-Barre Area will face off against top-seeded Williamsport, who received a bye into the semifinals after sweeping Wyoming Valley West.

Winners of the Monday matches will progress to the championship game, which will also serve as a qualifying match for the PIAA tournament, taking place on March 19 at 17:00 at North Pocono High School.

For those wishing to attend the matches, tickets can be purchased through the District 2 website. Prices are set at $6 for adults and $3 for students. Admission is free for adults aged 65 and older and children aged five and younger, though proof of age may be required.

The Lady Cougars’ victory is a testament to their skill and determination, setting the stage for a thrilling semifinal as they continue their pursuit of a championship title.
