The Downingtown East girls golf team narrowly defeated their rivals, Downingtown West, with a score of 180-188 during a match held at Whitford Country Club on Tuesday. The standout performances came from Emma Gangemi and Rebecca Santoso, who each recorded a score of 43, including a birdie on the par-5 ninth and par-5 fourth holes, respectively.
In addition to Gangemi and Santoso’s contributions, Ella Kikuchi added a score of 46 for the Cougars, while Olivia Kirmayer completed the team’s score with a 48. The Whippets were led by Malaina Druffner, who achieved the best score of the day with a 42. Her teammates, Maddie Gross and Macy Linsley, contributed scores of 46 and 50, respectively, while Carli Pierce also finished with a score of 50.
Other Notable Matches in the Ches-Mont American League
In another match within the Ches-Mont American League, the GolfKennett Blue Demons secured a victory against Great Valley, with a score of 186-201. Sophomores Ian Rotto and Ben Shiley led the team with even-par scores of 36. Other notable performances included Kyle Doherty with a score of 37, Matthew Pepe who carded a 38, and junior Carlos Barreto contributing a 39.
In a separate match, West Chester Rustin topped Oxford with a score of 190-231. Cole Berry and Cris MacNeil were the top performers, shooting scores of 36 and 37, respectively. Zach Raihall and KJ DeSantis also added to the team’s success with scores of 38 and 39. For the Hornets, Sophia Reinhard led with a score of 40.
Downingtown West Volleyball Match Results
In girls volleyball, Downingtown West faced off against West Chester East, winning decisively in straight sets with scores of 25-14, 25-16, and 25-19. Sara Fatscher was a key player for the Vikings, achieving 10 kills and 14 digs. Other notable contributions came from Kendall McPeak, who had two aces and 11 digs, as well as Katie McPeak, who recorded 16 assists and five digs.
College Field Hockey Update
In college sports, Audra Szymborski, goalkeeper for West Chester, received recognition as the PSAC Defensive Player of the Week. Her impressive performance included leading the Golden Rams to victories over two nationally ranked opponents. They defeated No. 7 Mansfield 3-2 on Wednesday and upset No. 3 East Stroudsburg 2-1 in overtime on Saturday. Szymborski not only made 13 saves on 16 shots during these matches but also tied her season-high with nine saves against East Stroudsburg.
