President Donald Trump publicly defended Florida Attorney General Pam Bondi on Saturday following backlash from some supporters regarding her management of the investigation into accused sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein. This criticism intensified after the release of a memo which concluded there was no evidence Epstein maintained a “client list” or was murdered. Trump praised Bondi’s performance, stating on Truth Social that she is doing a “FANTASTIC JOB.”
In his post, Trump expressed discontent with the criticism aimed at Bondi, saying, “What’s going on with my ‘boys’ and, in some cases, ‘gals?’ They’re all going after Attorney General Pam Bondi, who is doing a FANTASTIC JOB!” He further emphasized the unity of his supporters, referring to them as part of the “MAGA” team and lamented the negative attention Bondi has received.
The fallout from the memo’s release has been significant, with CNN reporting that Deputy FBI Director Dan Bongino is contemplating resignation amid tensions between the FBI and the Department of Justice. The memo, which stirred controversy, was released just days ago and has prompted a strong response from Trump allies, including right-wing activist Laura Loomer, who has called for Bondi’s removal.
On Tuesday, Trump appeared dismissive when questioned about Epstein at a press briefing, saying, “I can’t believe you’re asking a question on Epstein at a time like this.” He reiterated his frustration in his Saturday remarks, noting, “For years, it’s Epstein, over and over again.” He accused various political adversaries, including former President Barack Obama and former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton, of being responsible for the so-called “Epstein Files.”
Trump also questioned why these political figures had not released any information that could damage the MAGA movement, asserting, “If there was ANYTHING in there that could have hurt the MAGA Movement, why didn’t they use it?” His comments reflect a broader narrative he has maintained regarding political rivalries and investigations.
Furthermore, Trump called upon FBI Director Kash Patel to redirect the focus of the bureau’s investigations towards issues he deems more pressing, such as alleged voter fraud and political corruption. He stated, “Kash Patel, and the FBI, must be focused on investigating Voter Fraud, Political Corruption, ActBlue, The Rigged and Stolen Election of 2020, and arresting Thugs and Criminals, instead of spending month after month looking at nothing but the same old, Radical Left inspired Documents on Jeffrey Epstein.”
In a concluding remark, Trump strongly supported Bondi, stating, “LET PAM BONDI DO HER JOB — SHE’S GREAT!” He characterized Epstein as “somebody that nobody cares about,” further illustrating his intent to shift the narrative away from the controversial figure and focus on perceived threats to his administration.
As the situation develops, the ongoing tensions within the Trump administration and among his supporters highlight the complexities of navigating public perceptions surrounding high-profile investigations.
