Arturo O. Valencia, affectionately known as Art, passed away peacefully at home, surrounded by family. His life, marked by hard work, resilience, and an unwavering devotion to his loved ones, leaves a lasting legacy. Born in North Hollywood to Alejandro and Luisa Valencia, he dedicated over 73 years to his beloved wife, Nellie Valencia, who predeceased him. Together, they raised four children: Mary George, Arturo Valencia, Andy Valencia, and Becky Trillo.
Art’s family was the cornerstone of his existence. He cherished his grandchildren and great-grandchildren, imparting lessons of love and integrity. He was predeceased by his sister, Lola Gonzalez, and brothers, Alex, Raymond, and John. Surviving him are siblings Tito and Choco, who remain a part of his enduring family legacy.
Passions and Achievements
Beyond his professional life, Art found joy in various pursuits. Family camping trips at Glen Ivy created cherished memories, while his passion for bowling spanned over four decades. He competed at the Bowl-O-Drome and later at Gardena Bowl, demonstrating skill and dedication. In the 1960s, he was an active member of a men’s softball league at Torrance Park and earned a reputation as a talented pool player, winning tournaments and acclaim in Torrance.
Art’s journey began in Torrance, where he was raised in the close-knit community of La Rana. He attended Torrance High School and built a remarkable career defined by hard work and expertise. He dedicated 20 years to Soule’ Steel in Carson before moving on to become a Master Mechanic at McDonnell Douglas. His precision and commitment earned him respect and recognition among his peers.
Art was a self-made man, rising from humble beginnings to create a life filled with love, purpose, and accomplishments. He took immense pride in restoring and maintaining his home, with each project reflecting his craftsmanship and care. His love for reading was evident, as he was a lifelong subscriber to the Daily Breeze, taking delight in the written word and appreciating that his sons once delivered that very paper.
A Lasting Legacy
Though Art is no longer physically present, his spirit lives on through the stories shared by family and friends, the lessons he taught, and the love he so freely offered. Services to honor his life will take place at 4 PM on October 27, 2025, at Bethel Baptist Church of Torrance, located at 1501 W Carson St, Torrance, CA 90501-3934.
