Two men face multiple charges following a shooting incident at a woman’s home and vehicle in Glenburn on Sunday, March 17, 2024. The suspects, identified as George Overlock, 36, from Carmel, and Raphael Cupidon, 22, from Massachusetts, allegedly opened fire on a residence and a parked car, prompting a police pursuit.
According to the Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office, Overlock has been charged with several offenses, including aggravated drug trafficking, possession of firearms by a prohibited person, and refusal to stop for law enforcement. His charges also encompass aggravated criminal mischief, criminal speeding, driving to endanger, and burglary, among others. Cupidon faces similar charges, including aggravated drug trafficking and refusal to submit to arrest.
The incident began around 15:10 when Overlock, Cupidon, and at least one other individual, all wearing ski masks, reportedly discharged firearms at a home on Danforth Drive. Fortunately, no injuries were reported among those inside the residence.
The situation escalated when deputies later located the suspects in a truck on Union Street in Hermon. Overlock, allegedly behind the wheel, attempted to evade police, leading them on a chase through Davis Road in Bangor and onto Finson Road. During the pursuit, the vehicle slowed, allowing Cupidon and another accomplice to exit and flee on foot. Overlock continued driving back towards Glenburn.
Deputies pursued the vehicle, which Overlock abandoned before allegedly breaking into a residence on Lake View Road to evade capture. When officers arrived to arrest him, Overlock reportedly resisted. During this break-in, the homeowners’ pet dog, a nine-year-old English mastiff named Rosie, escaped and has not been located since. The homeowners were not present during the incident.
Authorities utilized police dogs to track Cupidon, who had fled into the woods off Finson Road, ultimately discovering him hiding beneath a mobile home.
In their investigation, police executed search warrants in Bangor and Hampden, resulting in the seizure of approximately half a kilo of drugs and two handguns. Law enforcement officials are actively searching for additional individuals believed to be involved in the shooting.
The Penobscot County Sheriff’s Office has stated, “No additional information will be provided at this time to avoid compromising the investigation.” As this case unfolds, the community remains on alert, hoping for a swift resolution and the safe return of the missing dog.
