October Showcase Features Diverse Artistic Talent at The Artists’ Gallery

The Artists’ Gallery, located at 416 Main St., presents an engaging showcase of diverse works by three talented artists throughout the month of October. Each month, the gallery highlights several artists in a special display, allowing visitors to appreciate their unique styles and contributions to the art community. The opening event coincides with the First Friday celebration on October 3, 2023, from 16:30 to 19:30.

Featured Artists and Their Unique Styles

Mary Cotner is a watercolorist known for her innovative use of Yupo paper, a slick synthetic medium that enhances the interplay of paints and water. Her portfolio features a range of themes, including landscapes, animals, and still life. In addition to her artistic pursuits, Cotner enriches the gallery experience by performing music on the acoustic guitar during many First Friday celebrations, including this month’s event.

Robin Riddle, a seasoned photographer, focuses on capturing the stunning landscapes and wildlife of Colorado. Riddle draws inspiration from nature’s unspoiled beauty, stating, “The pure beauty of nature untouched by human influence is my motivation.” Her work also includes poignant photographs of abandoned and decaying buildings, each telling a story of its own. Riddle has been a valued member of The Artists’ Gallery for several years.

Virginia Ames brings her acclaimed beading artistry from Pueblo West to the gallery. She creates intricate beaded jewelry, stating, “I create beaded jewelry that comes from the heart…one bead at a time!” Her pieces, which include necklaces, earrings, and pins, showcase original and unusual designs that reflect her distinctive artistic vision. Ames has also been a dedicated member of the gallery community.

Visitors are invited to enjoy an evening of art, live music from Mary Cotner, and refreshments during the First Friday celebration. The gallery operates daily from 10:00 to 18:00, welcoming art enthusiasts to explore the featured works.

Upcoming Community Event: Paper Shredding in Cañon City

In a separate community initiative, the City of Cañon City is set to host a paper shredding event on November 5 and 6, 2023. Residents can bring their paper for shredding at City Hall, located in the downstairs foyer, during the following hours:

– Wednesday, November 5, from 11:00 to 13:00
– Thursday, November 6, from 07:30 to 09:30

This event is exclusively for paper—newspapers and other media formats such as VHS tapes, floppy disks, and cassette tapes will not be accepted. The cost for shredding is set at $0.50 per pound, and only cash payments will be accepted. Collected items will be professionally shredded on November 10, ensuring secure disposal for the community.
