Nashoba Valley Technical High School in Westford has recognized its outstanding students and athletes for the month of September. The selections highlight the achievements of individuals who exemplify the school’s core values: resourcefulness, responsibility, resilience, respect, and readiness.
Students of the Month
Two students have been honored for their academic and extracurricular excellence. James Conway, a senior from Groton, is enrolled in the Advanced Manufacturing program. He has earned memberships in both the National Honor Society and the National Technical Honor Society, reflecting his status as an honors student. In the previous academic year, he secured a bronze medal in the CNC Technician category at the SkillsUSA District competition. James aims to further his education at Pennsylvania College of Technology.
Nominated by Spanish teacher Amy St. Arnaud, James has excelled in his studies by actively participating in class discussions. He recently achieved a perfect score on a challenging quiz covering 20 Latin American countries and their capitals. St. Arnaud noted, “James is highly motivated, often studying at the library in the evenings as he prepares for college. His dedication, strong work ethic, and enthusiasm for learning truly set him apart.”
Another standout student is William Desmarais, also a senior, hailing from Pepperell. He is a member of the Engineering Technology program and shares a similar accolade in being inducted into the National Honor Society and National Technical Honor Society. Alongside his academic pursuits, William plays football and baseball for the Vikings and is actively involved in scouting, planning to enlist in the U.S. Navy post-graduation.
William’s nomination came from Engineering Technology instructor Jaylene Dos Santos, who praised his initiative and helpfulness in class. “Will has been so helpful in locating, organizing, and constructing projects. He is always willing to assist when asked and seeks out opportunities to help within the classroom,” Dos Santos commented, appreciating his kindness and professionalism.
Athletes of the Month
The school also honored its athletes for their exceptional contributions on and off the field. Miguel Montalvo, a senior from Ayer, serves as captain of the Vikings football team, which reached the MIAA Division 8 state semifinals in 2024, finishing the season with a commendable record of 10 wins and 1 loss. He is involved in the Health Assisting program and is currently taking early college classes to advance his nursing career.
Health Assisting instructor Milaina Mainieri nominated Miguel, highlighting his ability to balance multiple responsibilities. “Miguel is balancing early college, football, and mentoring with work at a pediatric skilled nursing facility. He has a cheerful attitude and greets everyone in a friendly manner, holding himself to a high standard,” Mainieri stated.
Additionally, Janiyah Taveras from Littleton, a sophomore cheerleader, has been recognized for her commitment to the cheer squad. Coaches Isabella Dias and Christine Patenaude commended her for her punctuality, teamwork, and positive influence on her peers. “Janiyah has come full circle from freshman year. She has been a positive role model for all athletes on the team,” Patenaude noted, emphasizing her dedication to improvement and love for the sport.
These students and athletes represent the values and dedication that Nashoba Valley Technical High School aims to instill in its community, showcasing their talents and commitment to excellence both in and out of the classroom.
