Edward Nicholas Yunker, aged 86, passed away on August 1, 2025, at his home in Baxter, Minnesota, with his wife, Yvonne Yunker, by his side. Born on February 13, 1939, in Crosby, Minnesota, he was the son of Melvin and Ann Yunker. His life was marked by dedication to family, community service, and a variety of personal interests.
Yunker graduated from Crosby High School in 1957 and subsequently joined the U.S. Navy, where he proudly served as a radio operator. He married Gayle Anderson in June 1962, and they had three children: Brian, Amy, and Melissa. After a long career with Potlatch, he retired in 1998.
Yunker’s passions extended well beyond his professional life. He attained a brown belt in Karate and was deeply involved in various sports activities. He also engaged in the local arts, performing and directing in numerous theatrical and vocal productions. His most notable contribution was to the community show, Geritol Frolics, where he earned the affectionate title of “Mr. Geritol Frolics.”
Family remained at the heart of Yunker’s life. He was a proud grandfather to 12 grandchildren and a great-grandfather to 18. He is remembered not only for his community involvement but also for the love he shared with his family. Yunker was preceded in death by his parents, siblings Patte, Ruth Ann, and David, his son Brian, and his first wife, Gayle.
He is survived by his wife, Yvonne, his daughters, Amy Carson and Melissa Yunker, and stepchildren Mark Hill, Margo (Reid) Johnson, and Marty (Stacy) Hill. He also leaves behind sisters Connie and Judy, brothers Ron and Dennis, and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.
Funeral services will take place on August 9, 2025, at 11:00 a.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Baxter, with visitation beginning one hour prior to the service. Following the service, a luncheon will be offered to attendees. Yunker will receive military honors during an interment ceremony at the Minnesota State Veterans Cemetery in Little Falls on August 11, 2025, at 11:00 a.m.
