Classic Theatre Guild Seeks New Home in Schenectady County

The Classic Theatre Guild (CTG), based in Niskayuna, is actively seeking a new venue after announcing its impending departure from Congregation Beth Israel, where it has performed for the last eight years. As the organization prepares for its upcoming season of shows, it faces the urgent task of finding a suitable location for rehearsals, performances, and storage.

CTG board members recently renewed their lease with Congregation Beth Israel through April 2026. However, they were informed that the congregation might need to sell its Eastern Parkway building, potentially jeopardizing future agreements. This development has prompted CTG to explore alternative locations to ensure the continuity of its theatrical productions.

The search for a new venue emphasizes the importance of stability for the guild, which has become a cultural fixture in the region. The organization is well-known for its community-focused performances and has cultivated a loyal audience over the years. With the potential sale of the current venue, the guild’s leadership is prioritizing the identification of a space that can accommodate their needs.

CTG’s artistic director stated, “We are committed to our community and want to continue providing quality theater experiences. Finding a new home is vital to our mission.” The organization is considering various options in Schenectady County, looking for a location that will not only serve as a performance space but also support their rehearsal and storage requirements.

As they navigate this transitional period, the Classic Theatre Guild is appealing to local businesses and community members for assistance in locating a new venue. The board is optimistic about the future and is actively engaged in discussions with potential partners who share their vision for community arts.

In the coming months, CTG will continue to update its supporters and audience on the progress of their search. The guild remains focused on ensuring that its upcoming season will proceed as planned, showcasing the dedication of its team to deliver exceptional theatrical experiences in a new setting.

As the organization transitions away from Congregation Beth Israel, it underscores the resilience and adaptability of community arts groups in facing challenges. With continued support from the community, CTG is poised to maintain its presence in Schenectady County’s vibrant arts scene.
