COLOMBO — The total number of COVID-19 cases in Sri Lanka surpassed the 10,000-mark on Friday after 314 new patients were detected during the day, health ministry statistics showed.

DHAKA — Bangladesh reported 1,604 new COVID-19 cases and 19 new deaths on Friday, making the tally at 406,364 and death toll at 5,905, the Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS) said.

HONG KONG — The government of China’s Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) on Friday formally launched procedures in accordance with the World Trade Organization (WTO) Dispute Settlement Mechanism with respect to the new requirement on origin marking for Hong Kong products announced by the United States Customs and Border Protection on Aug. 11.

The permanent representative of the HKSAR to the WTO sent to the permanent representative of the United States to the WTO Hong Kong’s request for consultations with the U.S. government in respect of the new U.S. requirement in accordance with the WTO Dispute Settlement Mechanism. HONG KONG — Hong Kong’s Gross Domestic Product (GDP) for the third quarter of 2020 decreased by 3.4 percent in real terms from a year earlier, compared with the decrease of 9.0 percent in the second quarter, according to the advance estimates of the Census and Statistics Department of the Hong Kong Special Administrative Region (HKSAR) government on Friday.

On a seasonally adjusted quarter-to-quarter comparison basis, GDP increased by 3.0 percent in real terms in the third quarter, ending five consecutive quarters of contraction, official statistics showed. (Hong Kong-GDP-Q3)

JAKARTA — The COVID-19 cases in Indonesia rose by 2,897 within one day to 406,945, with the death toll adding by 81 to 13,782, the health ministry said on Friday.

According to the ministry, 4,517 more people were discharged from hospitals, bringing the total number of recovered patients to 334,295. (Indonesia-COVID-19)
