Peace Regional RCMP are now investigating a structure fire that destroyed a garage at the old Forestry site in Peace River earlier this month.

On May 2, Peace Regional RCMP and the Peace River Fire Department responded to the blaze where they found the garage at the southern end of the lot to be involved in fire upon the arrival of emergency personnel.

Crews worked to douse the fire, including a small grass fire that sprang up as a result of the larger blaze. Both fires were contained, while the garage had to be demolished as the fire left it in an unusable condition.

All the buildings were vacant at the time of the fire and no injuries were reported.

The investigation into the cause of the fire is on-going, and police are asking the public for assistance in identifying any suspicious behaviour in and around the compound during the hours leading up to the fire.

Nearby residents with video surveillance systems or dash cameras are also asked to review their footage and contact the Peace Regional detachment in the event that any suspicious individuals or activity were captured.

Those with information can contact the Peace Regional RCMP detachment at 780-624-6677. If you wish to remain anonymous, you can contact Crime Stoppers by phone at 1-800-222-8477 (TIPS), online at, or by using the “P3 Tips” app available through the Apple App or Google Play Store.
