Las Vegas Raiders Champion Children’s Health Through Unique Initiative

The Las Vegas Raiders showcased their commitment to children’s health by participating in the NFL’s “My Cause My Cleats” initiative during their recent game. Players wore customized cleats and sneakers designed to honor young patients battling serious illnesses in Nevada. This initiative not only highlighted personal stories of courage but also aimed to raise awareness for the planned construction of Nevada’s first standalone children’s hospital by 2030.

Among the players, linebacker Elandon Roberts collaborated with 11-year-old Isaak Gavin-Oddieo, a pediatric patient undergoing treatment for Ewing Sarcoma. Together, they designed cleats that reflected Isaak’s journey through chemotherapy and his upcoming surgery. The partnership between athletes and young patients emphasizes the Raiders’ focus on community and healing.

Raiders President Sandra Douglass Morgan also participated in this heartfelt initiative. She teamed up with 7-year-old Evelyn Lackey, a brain cancer survivor, to create sneakers decorated with vibrant dragons and flowers. According to the Raiders’ official news release, Morgan stated, “This is about giving our kids hope, healing, and a future they can grow into.”

Supporting Future Healthcare Initiatives

The Raiders’ participation in the initiative aligns with a larger goal to promote comprehensive cancer care in the region. The team highlighted the efforts of Intermountain Health, which is working towards the establishment of a dedicated children’s hospital. Mitch Cloward, the regional president of Intermountain Health, collaborated with 14-year-old Aiden Woodward, who lives with a rare brain condition, to design another pair of sneakers for the initiative. Cloward remarked, “The strength of the patients cannot be understated,” underscoring the resilience displayed by these young individuals.

The custom footwear, each telling a unique story of bravery, will be auctioned off at the 2025 Festival of Trees in Salt Lake City. Proceeds from the auction will directly support the establishment of the children’s hospital, reinforcing the Raiders’ commitment to enhancing healthcare options for children in Nevada.

As the Raiders continue to advocate for children’s health, their efforts through the “My Cause My Cleats” initiative serve as a powerful reminder of the impact that sports organizations can have on local communities. By amplifying the voices of young patients and their families, the team not only fosters hope but also creates a future where comprehensive care is within reach for all children.
