As fall approaches, flu season is imminent, prompting health officials in the Lehigh Valley to announce various locations where residents can receive flu vaccinations. The flu shot significantly decreases the risk of severe illness and helps prevent the transmission of the virus to others. Vaccinations are available for everyone aged six months and older, and this year’s formulation is expected to align well with the circulating flu strains anticipated in the United States.
Lehigh Valley Health Network is hosting free annual flu shot clinics on October 11, 2023, from 9:00 to 15:00 at Lehigh Valley Hospital-Hecktown Oaks, located at 3780 Hecktown Road in Lower Nazareth Township. A second clinic will take place on October 12, 2023, at the Integrated Health Campus at 240 Cetronia Road in South Whitehall Township, during the same hours. Individuals wishing to receive a flu shot at either location must complete a consent form and register online at LVHN.org/flushot. Attendees are advised to wear loose-fitting clothing to facilitate the administration of the vaccine in the arm or, for children under two years old, in the leg.
In Allentown, the Allentown Health Bureau will begin offering free flu shot clinics starting on September 26, 2023, from 13:30 to 15:30 at Alliance Hall, located at 245 N. 6th Street. Additional clinics will occur every Friday at the same time and venue throughout the flu season.
On October 16, 2023, the Lehigh County Coroner’s Office will host a one-day free flu shot clinic from 14:00 to 18:00 at the Lehigh County Forensic Center, situated at 4350 Broadway in Allentown. This event will not only provide vaccinations but also include tours of the forensic center, as well as complimentary hot dogs and light refreshments.
Meanwhile, St. Luke’s University Health Network recommends that patients schedule their flu shots through their family doctors, local pharmacies, or other vaccine providers, rather than through clinics. Major pharmacy chains such as CVS and Walgreens, along with grocery store pharmacies like Weis and Giant, also offer flu shots. For those with insurance coverage, these vaccinations typically incur no copayment. Both chains allow walk-ins and enable customers to schedule appointments via their respective websites.
As the flu season approaches, public health officials encourage residents to take proactive measures by obtaining their vaccinations. Flu shots are vital in protecting not only individuals but also the wider community from the potential impact of seasonal influenza.
