Stevie Nicks and Lindsey Buckingham have ignited speculation about a potential reunion with a mysterious billboard that appeared on Sunset Boulevard in Los Angeles this week. The billboard prominently features the original cover art of their 1973 album, Buckingham Nicks, which depicts a topless Nicks and Buckingham, alongside their names and the date September 19.

Located near Sound City Studios, where the album was initially recorded, the billboard appears to be a deliberate nod to the duo’s musical roots. This strategic placement has led fans to wonder whether a reissue of the long-out-of-print album is finally on the horizon.

Teasing a New Release

Adding to the buzz, both Nicks and Buckingham shared matching posts on Instagram last week, featuring lyrics from the track “Frozen Love” from Buckingham Nicks. Nicks wrote, “And if you go forward…” while Buckingham followed with, “I’ll meet you there,” completing a line from the song’s chorus. This coordinated social media activity has further fueled speculation regarding a possible announcement.

Although neither artist has officially confirmed the reissue, a brief appearance of a now-removed page for Buckingham Nicks on Rhino Records website over the weekend hinted at imminent news. According to reports, the URL remains active, despite the cover art being taken down.

Historical Significance of the Album

The original Buckingham Nicks album marked the only release from the duo prior to their joining Fleetwood Mac in 1975. For decades, it has remained out of print and has never been available in digital or vinyl formats. Fans have circulated bootleg versions over the years, and many are hopeful that the forthcoming release could include bonus content, such as alternate takes and live recordings, including an early version of “Rhiannon.”

While some fans are eager for a joint tour, others are speculating about a full Fleetwood Mac reunion. However, Nicks previously indicated that the band would not continue without Christine McVie, who passed away in 2022. Reflecting on her relationship with Buckingham, Nicks noted, “The only time I’ve spoken to Lindsey was [at McVie’s memorial], for about three minutes. I dealt with Lindsey for as long as I could. You could not say that I did not give him more than 300 million chances.”

This announcement comes closely on the heels of Fleetwood Mac’s 50th anniversary celebrations, during which Mick Fleetwood expressed his sentiments on Instagram, stating, “It’s magic then, it’s magic now. What a thrill, what a thrill.”

As of now, representatives for Rhino Records have declined to comment on the billboard or the potential reissue. Fans will need to wait until September 19, 2023, for official confirmation regarding the long-anticipated re-release of Buckingham Nicks.
