In a recent episode of KBS’s show *Problem Child In House*, artist and former TYPHOON member Solbi shared her personal story regarding the fallout from a fabricated sex video that significantly impacted her life. The incident, which occurred in **2009**, involved a video dubbed the “**Solbi Video**,” that falsely implicated her. Despite being a victim of this deception, the scandal led to severe repercussions for her mental health and personal relationships.
Reflecting on that challenging time, Solbi stated, “Back in 2009, there was a video leak. It even used my name, being called the ‘Solbi video.’ But it was not me in that video.” She described the situation as one of the earliest instances of a fake video spreading in South Korea, leaving her feeling helpless as the police were unable to identify the original uploader.
The emotional toll was profound. Solbi recounted how the incident caused her to develop depression and social anxiety. Initially hesitant to take action, she eventually filed charges after being encouraged by law enforcement. Yet, she faced additional hardships as her then-boyfriend ended their relationship due to pressure from his family, who were concerned about the scandal. “Even though I was the victim, I don’t think they wanted their son dating someone involved in such a scandal,” she explained.
As her mental health deteriorated, Solbi found herself isolating from friends and family. She remarked, “The whole world looked dark to me, and I resented everyone.” This period proved to be one of the most difficult in her life, but it also marked the beginning of a transformative journey.
Finding Healing Through Art
To cope with her struggles, Solbi sought therapy and explored various creative outlets. She engaged in activities such as hiking, drumming, and flower arranging, which ultimately led her to discover her passion for art. “It was through painting that the way I viewed the world became healthier,” she noted.
Using her art as a form of therapy, Solbi began to channel her experiences, including the negative comments she received online, into her work. “At first, I painted like I was writing a diary, and as I expressed my wounds through art, even hate comments became material for my artwork,” she said.
Solbi’s resilience paid off; she has since built a successful career as an artist. She held her solo exhibition titled “**Flowers From Heaven**” in March 2023 and participated in a special invitational exhibition in **Porto, Portugal**, the following month. These milestones highlight her remarkable transformation from a victim of a scandal to a celebrated artist.
Despite the challenges she faced, Solbi’s story is one of triumph and healing. By confronting her past and using it as inspiration, she has turned a painful chapter into a powerful narrative of personal growth and artistic expression.
Her journey serves as a reminder of the importance of resilience in the face of adversity and the potential for art to heal and inspire.
