Family Connections Shine in ‘The Addams Family Musical’

“The Addams Family Musical” premieres on October 9, 2025, at Hering Auditorium, bringing together a unique blend of talent that reflects the show’s core theme of family. This production, running through October 12, showcases not just the kooky charm of the Addams clan but also real-life familial connections among the cast and crew.

Among the youngest performers is Charlotte Ingram, a 7-year-old who takes on the role of Cousin Itt. Her mother, Amy Ingram, an experienced performer in her own right, sings in the Ancestor Chorus. “I did the show because Charlotte is obsessed with ‘The Addams Family,'” Amy shared. With a background in opera and work with the Fairbanks Symphony Orchestra, she finds the transition to musical theatre refreshing. “It’s a whole new world for me, being mic’d,” she noted, expressing her joy in sharing this experience with her daughter.

The family theme extends to the Yeagers, with mother and daughter duo Deborah and Kaitlyn Yeager both participating in the Ancestor Chorus. Kaitlyn, a senior at North Pole High School, shared her motivation, saying, “I wanted to do one more thing with her before I graduate high school. I really want to have those memories.” Deborah added, “It’s been a little stressful but in a good way,” emphasizing the quality time they are spending together in rehearsal.

The Illguth family is also deeply involved, with Meghan Illguth serving as production manager for the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival. Her children, Corin and Sonja Illguth, are part of the stage crew, drawing on years of experience gained from assisting their mother. “Helping and applause,” Sonja said of what she enjoys most about theatre, while Corin, who has acted on stage, reminisced about his time playing Willy Wonka.

Veteran performer Arlin Guess is bringing his experience to the show as well, joining the Ancestor Chorus. He is particularly excited as his daughter, Kelly Guess, is the choreographer for this production. The family atmosphere resonates throughout, creating a supportive environment for all involved.

Among the cast, Jonathan Lange, who portrays Malcolm Bieneke, is returning to the stage with enthusiasm. He expressed his excitement, noting, “We’re killin’ it up there,” and highlighting the comedic elements of the show. Additionally, the lead roles of Gomez and Alice are played by director Susan Rice’s son, Wesley Sonnemaker, and his partner, Elly Ditmore, a vocal performance major at the University of Alaska Fairbanks. Ditmore described the challenges of a quick turnaround, acknowledging the fun props, including a “15th-century Spanish Inquisition torture chair.”

The collaborative effort between the Fairbanks Summer Arts Festival and Fairbanks Light Opera Theatre has resulted in a dynamic production. Cast photos taken by Cassandra Johnson, daughter of chorus member Marlena Hale, add a personal touch to the promotional materials.

Tickets for “The Addams Family Musical” are available at www.fsaf.org, priced at $25 for adults and $10 for seniors and children. While only five performances are scheduled, each night features a special theme to enhance the audience experience. As opening night approaches, the excitement among the cast and crew is palpable, promising a memorable theatrical event that encapsulates the spirit of family and community.
