Dave Franco and Alison Brie, stars of the upcoming film “Together,” recently reminisced about the lighthearted moments surrounding their 2017 wedding in Los Angeles. As they prepare for the release of their new body horror film, which gained acclaim at the Sundance Film Festival, the couple reflected on their personal journey and the unconventional nature of their wedding.
The couple’s nuptials took place at their home, featuring an intimate ceremony attended only by close family. Franco described the occasion as a celebration that deviated from the traditional wedding template, emphasizing the couple’s desire for a relaxed atmosphere. “Neither of us were ever big into weddings. At the end of the day, we did it exactly how we wanted,” he said.
Big Sur held special significance for them, serving as the backdrop for Franco’s memorable proposal. He revealed that he planned to propose during a trip there, despite not having a ring ready. “I decided I was going to do it there,” Franco explained, noting his last-minute decision to purchase a placeholder ring from a local antiques store.
In a whimsical twist, Franco proposed while wearing a Zorro mask. “I spent the entire proposal explaining why it was so sweet that I kept the mask,” he recalled. Despite the peculiar circumstances, Brie accepted his proposal after some confusion, stating, “Are you serious right now?”
The couple’s wedding ceremony took place on their balcony with only their parents and siblings present. Following the ceremony, they celebrated with a lively reception at Pizzeria Mozza, a popular restaurant owned by chef Nancy Silverton. The celebration included around 60 friends and featured a casual atmosphere, complete with party favors of weed pens and personal pizzas.
Reflecting on the reception, Brie shared a humorous anecdote about an uninvited guest who brought a plus one, which added an unexpected twist to their carefully curated guest list. “We found out the night before the wedding that this guy’s new girlfriend was coming,” she noted, highlighting their laid-back approach to the event.
Despite the unconventionalities, the couple expressed satisfaction with how their wedding turned out. “In a cheesy way, that ended up being one of the best days of our lives,” Brie concluded.
Both Franco and Brie have continued to pursue their individual creative projects since their wedding. Franco recently completed a thriller script, while Brie has been working on a horror comedy. They plan to produce each other’s projects to support their artistic endeavors without overwhelming themselves.
As they await the release of “Together,” which is currently in theaters nationwide, Franco and Brie are not just partners in film but in life, sharing their unique story that combines love, laughter, and a touch of the unexpected.
