Connecticut Man Sets Guinness World Record with 3,500 Crocs

A resident of Wethersfield, Connecticut, has made headlines by setting a Guinness World Record for the largest collection of Crocs, amassing an impressive total of more than 3,500 pairs. Doogie Sandtiger, affectionately nicknamed the “Croc King,” has turned his unique passion into a significant achievement, officially recognized in November 2024.

Sandtiger’s journey began from a deeply personal place. As a child in the foster care system, he faced challenges that left him feeling isolated. One such challenge was not learning how to tie his shoes, an embarrassment that lingered through his adolescence. “I was too embarrassed to ask the adults around me for help,” Sandtiger recalled. This experience led him to discover Crocs, a footwear option he found easy to wear.

With a whimsical approach to life, Sandtiger embraced Crocs as more than just shoes. “This is what life is about,” he said. “Life is about having fun, living — simple as that.” His collection includes pairs for his dog, underscoring his commitment to the brand and the joy it brings him.

Setting a goal to own one pair for every day of the year, including leap years, Sandtiger initially aimed for 366 pairs. Upon surpassing that milestone, he set his sights on breaking a record. According to Guinness World Records guidelines, he needed at least 1,000 pairs to qualify. Through determination and passion, he achieved this requirement and officially reached out to Guinness.

In November 2024, Sandtiger showcased his entire collection in a local museum, where he confirmed his record-setting achievement. He plans to donate his World Record plaque to a local charity, reflecting his desire to give back to the community that has supported him.

Sandtiger estimates he has invested several hundred thousand dollars into his collection, but he views it as a worthwhile endeavor. His aspirations extend beyond individual ownership; he hopes to open a museum named the “Crocsium” to celebrate his collection and share it with others.

“Crocs are fun for everybody,” Sandtiger stated, highlighting his intention to create an inclusive space for fellow enthusiasts. His story serves as a reminder of the power of pursuing one’s passions and the joy that can come from embracing individuality.
