Barbara Jean Filippini (née Olsheski), a cherished wife, mother, and grandmother, passed away on June 19, 2025, at the age of 85 after a prolonged struggle with Covid-19. Her family has described her as the heart and soul of their household, embodying love and devotion throughout her life.
Early Life and Family Legacy
Born on September 11, 1939, in Duryea, Pennsylvania, Barbara was the first daughter of Agnes Romaine (née Grudzinski) and Peter Paul Olsheski, both of whom have preceded her in death. She is survived by her sister, Diane D. Olsheski, and brother, Peter P. Olsheski. Barbara dedicated her life to her family, choosing to pause her career as an elementary school teacher to raise her three children—Eric, Aaron, and Ardis—alongside her husband of 63 years, Frank J. Filippini.
In addition to being a devoted mother, Barbara embraced her roles as a mother-in-law to Eileen Filippini (née Beck) and Cheryl Filippini (née Quinn), and grandmother to six grandchildren: Alec Francis, Briana Naomi, Sydney Taylor, Samuel Roger, Tyler Joseph, and Aidan Lorenzo, who affectionately called her “Memom.” Her family was her greatest joy.
A Life of Kindness and Service
Barbara graduated from College Misericordia in Dallas, Pennsylvania. She was renowned for her generous spirit, impeccable taste, and deep love of children. Her family described her as someone who cherished every moment spent together, especially in places like Peddler’s Village, New Hope, and Longwood Gardens.
Barbara’s legacy is defined by her unwavering devotion to family, her kindness towards others, and her faith. She was a woman of prayer, often expressing her love for God through her daily actions and interactions with those around her. Her family plans to honor her memory in a way that reflects her passions.
In accordance with her wishes, there will be no services following her passing. Instead, her family encourages donations to the St. Jude’s Research Center for Childhood Cancer, an organization that aligns with Barbara’s lifelong love for children. They hope that this gesture will celebrate her journey and the love she shared with all.
Barbara Jean Filippini leaves behind a legacy of love that will be profoundly missed by her family and all who knew her. Her impact on their lives will be felt for generations to come.
