Anna Yuan, a prominent contestant from the reality dating series Love Is Blind, has voiced her strong disapproval of body-shaming comments directed at her following a significant weight loss of approximately 40 pounds. In a passionate message shared on her Instagram Stories on October 25, 2023, the 28-year-old hairstylist emphasized the inappropriateness of strangers commenting on another person’s weight or appearance.
“Reminder that it’s weird as f*** to message a person you don’t know to comment about their weight or physical appearance,” she stated. “Please, for the love of God touch grass!” This statement follows her previous remarks regarding body shaming after the premiere of season 9, where she reiterated her humanity and the struggles she has faced with her body image.
Anna’s Journey and Reflections
Earlier in October, Anna addressed her followers, stating, “Hi friends, reminder that I am human. A human who has devoted her life into a craft to make other women feel beautiful.” She acknowledged her lifelong struggles with weight and expressed pride in her current health status. “I’m not a character. I’m a real human being just like you. Be kind. Love you all anyway,” she added, appealing for empathy and understanding from her audience.
Anna’s experience on Love Is Blind was marked by emotional vulnerability. She formed connections with fellow contestants Patrick Suzuki and Blake Anderson in the show’s unique pod format. However, she ultimately chose to leave the competition mid-experiment, stating that she realized her match was not on the other side of the pod wall. “I started seeing myself being pretty vulnerable, and it scared me a little bit,” she explained to Tudum. “These are very sensitive topics for me.”
Despite her decision to exit the show, Anna expressed no regret, believing the connections were not strong enough to lead to a successful marriage. “I went in there thinking that anything could happen. I’d be OK if I didn’t find somebody,” she noted.
Impact on Relationships
Anna’s departure from the show did have emotional repercussions. She expressed concern for Patrick, saying, “The only thing I cared about was hurting Patrick with how I exited the show, and I deeply regretted that.” Fortunately, the two have since built a friendship that she values highly.
Following Anna’s exit, Patrick pursued fellow contestant Kacie McIntosh, and they became engaged by the end of the ten-day pod experiment. However, Kacie later ended the engagement shortly after meeting Patrick in person, citing a lack of physical attraction.
Anna reflected on her experience, stating, “I tried it, [and] ultimately it didn’t work out for me and that’s OK.” She expressed gratitude for the opportunity to participate in the show, despite the challenges it presented.
The highly anticipated reunion episode of Love Is Blind season 9 is set to air on Netflix on October 29, 2023, at 21:00 ET, where viewers will get a chance to see how the relationships have evolved since filming. Anna’s candid remarks highlight the broader conversation about body image and the importance of kindness in the age of social media.
