New businesses opened their doors across the Lehigh Valley in September, while several longstanding establishments closed. The local dining and retail landscape is evolving, reflecting both opportunities and challenges for entrepreneurs in the region.
New Openings in September
A notable addition to the local dining scene is Marcy’s Hamburgers, which celebrated a soft opening on September 3 at 77 N. Fourth St. in Easton. The menu features a variety of options, including burgers, wings, empanadas, sandwiches, salads, and house-made mozzarella.
On the same day, Chipotle Mexican Grill launched a new location at 2445 Butler St. in Wilson, promising a familiar menu of customizable Mexican cuisine. Just a day later, Amigos Mexican Grill held its grand opening on September 4 at The Marquis apartments, located at 27 S. Third St. in Easton, where customers can enjoy tacos, burritos, bowls, and quesadillas.
The local market also welcomed AEC Market, which opened on September 6 at 2374 Seiptstown Road in Weisenberg Township. This new grocery store offers a diverse range of products, including fresh meat, dairy, produce, and baked goods.
Other highlights include the grand opening of AG Yoga & Spin Lab on September 11 in Bethlehem, and The Barbecue Boys, which opened on September 16 at 306 S. New St., offering a selection of smoked meats and sandwiches.
The culinary offerings continued to expand with the opening of Fairouz Restaurant on September 18 at 1916 Hanover Ave. in Allentown. It specializes in Middle Eastern dishes, including hummus, shawarma, and kabobs. This month also saw the launch of Ideal Food Basket on September 19 in Easton, followed by Maracas Dominican Restaurant on September 20 at 665 Northampton St., offering traditional Dominican fare.
The month concluded with a grand opening of Towneplace Suites by Marriott on September 24 in Upper Macungie Township, enhancing local hospitality options.
Finally, on September 27, the painting and event studio Whoodle Works Studio opened at Palmer Park Mall, inviting creativity and community engagement.
Closures Impacting the Community
Despite the influx of new businesses, September also marked the end for several local establishments. Black River Wine Bar closed its doors on September 21 at the Trolley Barn Public Market in Quakertown. Following this, Maingate Nightclub announced its permanent closure on September 22 at 448 N. 17th St. in Allentown.
In a notable shift, Iron Hill Brewery and Restaurant announced on September 25 that it would close all its locations nationwide, including the one situated at the Lehigh Valley Mall in Whitehall Township. Additionally, Breakfast on Broadway confirmed its closure on September 24 in Bangor, further altering the regional dining landscape.
