Sandra Jean DeVos Huber, a cherished wife and mother, passed away on November 10, 2025, at the age of 80. Born on November 3, 1945, in Albany, New York, she was the daughter of William and Sophia DeVos. Her commitment to education and community service left a lasting impact on those who knew her.
A graduate of SUNY Albany with a Bachelor of Arts degree in 1968, Sandy developed a lifelong passion for reading, language, and communication. She met her husband, Russell Huber, in 1968, and they were married in 1976. Together, they raised two sons, William Huber of Albany and Carl (Aubrey) Huber of Penfield.
Throughout her life, Sandy actively engaged in her community. She participated in the Duanesburg Central School District reading programs and the Parent Teacher Student Organization (PTSO). Additionally, she served as a Boy Scout den mother, where she fostered a spirit of learning and fun among young children.
Sandy’s dedication to volunteering extended beyond her children’s activities. She contributed significantly to public broadcasting by helping with fundraising auctions for PBS. Through the WMHT RISE program, she read for the print disabled, showcasing her commitment to accessibility and education. Sandy also enjoyed a fulfilling career within the Schenectady County Public Library system, where her love for literature flourished.
In her personal life, Sandy embraced a variety of interests. She found joy in mystery novels, creating stained glass art projects, embarking on road trips, and experimenting in the kitchen with cooking and baking. These pursuits reflected her vibrant personality and zest for life.
Sandy is predeceased by her siblings, Catherine Agans and William DeVos, and is survived by her brother, Kenneth DeVos. She is remembered fondly by her husband, Russell, her two sons, and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews who cherish her memory.
A Celebration of Life will take place on Saturday, December 6, 2025, from 14:00 to 16:00 at the White-Van Buren Funeral Home, located at 1779 Main Street, Delanson, NY. In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to local PBS television stations or National Public Radio stations in her name.
