Darryn Peterson Out vs. Princeton Due to Hamstring Injury

BREAKING: Darryn Peterson, the top recruit in the nation, will miss Saturday’s game against Princeton due to a persistent hamstring injury, confirmed Bill Self, head coach of the No. 25 Kansas Jayhawks. This news comes just days after Peterson was sidelined during Tuesday’s dominant 77-46 victory over Texas A&M-Corpus Christi.

The injury occurred during a shootaround, and while Self emphasized that they do not believe it to be a long-term issue, the situation remains concerning for the Jayhawks as they prepare for critical matchups. “For whatever reason, it’s still sore,” Self stated. “As long as it’s still this sore, there’s no reason to put him out there yet.”

Peterson’s absence is felt deeply, especially with the Jayhawks set to face off against No. 4 Duke on Tuesday in New York during the Champions Classic. Following that, they’ll head to Las Vegas for guaranteed games against Notre Dame and Syracuse in the Players Era festival. Kansas will also host third-ranked UConn at Allen Fieldhouse on December 2, along with key games against Missouri and N.C. State before entering Big 12 play.

In his brief college career, Peterson has already made a significant impact, scoring 21 points in just 22 minutes during his debut against Green Bay and tallying 22 points against North Carolina. However, he has struggled with cramping issues earlier this season, limiting his playtime in exhibition games.

As fans and analysts alike keep a close watch, the big question remains: Will Peterson be ready in time for these high-profile games next week? Self is cautiously optimistic but acknowledges the need for Peterson to fully recover. “Right now, a couple of days, I’m not [concerned],” Self noted, but the tightness in Peterson’s hamstring continues to be a point of focus.

With the season intensifying and stakes rising, all eyes will be on Lawrence as Kansas navigates this critical period without their star player. Stay tuned for updates on Peterson’s condition and the Jayhawks’ upcoming games.
