University of Colorado Engages Residents in “Dear Colorado” Initiative

The University of Colorado (CU) has launched a new campaign titled “Dear Colorado,” inviting residents to share their passions and concerns about the state. This initiative aims to foster a dialogue between the university and Coloradans, showcasing how CU is actively addressing local issues through innovative programs and research.

CU is encouraging individuals from across the state to express what they cherish about Colorado. In response, the university is highlighting stories and videos that illustrate its four campuses—Boulder, Colorado Springs, Denver, and Anschutz—working on initiatives that resonate with the community. From advancements in health care to economic development, “Dear Colorado” represents a commitment to engage with residents on matters that affect their daily lives.

Empowering Local Entrepreneurs

One poignant example comes from Latrice, a resident of Denver, who emphasized her appreciation for the small businesses that characterize Colorado’s economy. Acknowledging this passion, CU has initiated the Rural Colorado Workshop Series through the Leeds School of Business at CU Boulder. This series empowers local entrepreneurs by providing them with practical strategies for success and fostering economic growth in their communities.

The workshops equip participants with entrepreneurial skills needed to launch new ventures or enhance existing ones. By fostering these interactive certificate courses, CU extends its reach throughout Colorado, offering essential resources to support the economic viability of rural communities.

Innovating Agriculture for Sustainability

In another example of CU’s outreach, Klaire from Grand Junction expressed her fondness for the state’s agricultural products, particularly its tomatoes, peaches, and grapes. Aligning with this sentiment, CU has made strides in sustainable agriculture, exemplified by alumni like Max Knight.

Leveraging his education from CU Boulder, Max founded Rooted Robotics, a company focused on revolutionizing the agriculture industry through innovative indoor farming solutions. His journey began with HydroBot, which specialized in hydroponic gardening. Recognizing the challenges of scaling this model, he developed Rooted Robotics, which employs robotics in vertical farming to enhance sustainability and efficiency. This initiative addresses critical challenges posed by climate change, including droughts and floods, which threaten traditional farming practices.

CU’s commitment to addressing such pressing issues reflects a broader mission to improve the lives of Coloradans. The university’s campuses are engaged in tackling challenges that influence the state’s economy, well-being, and overall quality of life.

The “Dear Colorado” campaign aims to highlight these efforts and the unique qualities of CU’s campuses. CU President Todd Saliman stated, “The ‘Dear Colorado’ campaign will enable us to showcase the special qualities of our four campuses and the extraordinary people who make up our campus communities. We love this state.”

Residents are invited to share their own stories and experiences at LoveColorado.com. The campaign combines heartfelt narratives, innovative solutions, and profiles of students, researchers, and alumni who are making a difference across the state.

As Colorado continues to evolve economically, culturally, and environmentally, the timing for the “Dear Colorado” campaign is critical. CU seeks to adapt not only through its curriculum and research but also by fostering real-world connections and meaningful relationships within the community.

President Saliman added, “As Colorado’s university, we embrace our name and are committed to serving the entire state. Simply put, that’s our primary mission. We’re working to show Coloradans that college is for them and their families.”
