Ruth K. Nawyn, a beloved musician and member of the community, passed away on October 31, 2025, at the age of 93. Known for her dedication to music and her faith, Ruth enriched the lives of many through her talents and her commitment to the Presbyterian Church.
From a young age, Ruth demonstrated a remarkable gift for music. She began playing the Eb horn with the Salvation Army Band and continued to share her passion as a pianist and vocalist in church choirs throughout her life. Her involvement in music was a significant part of her identity, and she remained active in these pursuits until her later years.
As a lifelong member of the Presbyterian Church, Ruth contributed significantly to her community. She was actively engaged with the Presbyterian Women and served as a bookkeeper for St. Andrew Presbyterian Church in Suffolk. Her commitment to her faith and her church community was evident in her many contributions and the relationships she fostered over the years.
Ruth’s passing marks the loss of a cherished family member and friend. She was predeceased by her husband of 68 years, Bernard “Barney” L. Nawyn, as well as her son, Kenneth Nawyn, and his wife, Rochelle Nawyn. She is survived by her daughter, Cathy Nawyn Weitekamp, and her husband Anthony, as well as her granddaughter, Chantel Nawyn, and her husband Bill Belcourt, her grandson Eric Nawyn, and great-grandson Aiden Belcourt.
To honor Ruth’s legacy, a memorial service will be held at Green Acres Presbyterian Church on November 9, 2025, at 14:00. Family, friends, and community members are invited to celebrate her life and contributions.
