David “Dave” Platt, a dedicated safety professional and cherished family member, passed away peacefully on September 30, 2025, following a brief illness. He was born on June 14, 1955, in Whittier, California, and his life journey was marked by a commitment to family, community, and safety.
Growing up in Whittier, Dave was actively involved in various activities including Scouting, Little League Baseball, and family camping excursions. He graduated from Calhi School in 1973 and later pursued higher education at Sonoma State University, where he earned a degree in Anthropology in 1978. His early years were also highlighted by his marriage to Jan Vogee during his time in Northern California.
After completing his studies, Dave settled in the Santa Cruz area, where he built a fulfilling career and family life. He married Ailene Platt and welcomed a daughter, Carolanne Baker. Known for his expertise, Dave earned the title of Certified Safety Professional (CSP). In his role, he focused on educating employers about workplace safety, earning him the nickname “The Safety Guy.”
In 2019, seeking a change, Dave relocated to Sequim, Washington, where he would spend his remaining years. His passion for life extended beyond his professional duties; he enjoyed photography, cooking, fishing, gardening, and music, frequently attending concerts throughout his life.
Dave was also a founding member of the Whittier Boys Club, reflecting his commitment to youth and community service. He is survived by his wife, Merribeth Platt, whom he married in 2006, alongside his daughter, extended family, and close friends. He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Marian Platt.
In honor of David Platt’s legacy, donations may be made to the American Cancer Society. His contributions to workplace safety and his loving family will be remembered by many.
