Hadley Solomon, a candidate for the St. Vrain Valley School Board District B, has laid out her vision for the future of education in the district. With 16 years of experience in the area and a background in journalism, Solomon emphasizes the importance of inclusivity, responsible growth, and effective use of technology in schools.
Solomon holds a Bachelor’s degree in journalism from the University of Arizona and has worked as a business consultant, helping organizations improve their operations. Her political and community involvement includes serving as a graduate of Leadership St. Vrain and as the former President of Grassroots St. Vrain. She has also contributed to the local education community by serving on Parent Advisory Boards at Niwot Elementary and Sunset Middle School, and leading fundraising efforts for the Niwot High School Education Foundation.
In light of recent changes in federal policy, Solomon was asked how she would support marginalized student groups, including students of color, transgender students, and immigrants. She emphasized the need for public schools to provide a safe and respectful environment for all students. “Public schools have a responsibility to educate and protect all students,” Solomon stated. She advocates for adherence to Colorado’s state policies that protect these groups and aims to foster an inclusive atmosphere where differences are seen as strengths.
The St. Vrain Valley School District faces significant challenges, particularly concerning enrollment disparities. Some schools are experiencing declining enrollment, while others are seeing rapid growth. Solomon believes that careful planning is essential to address these issues. “I believe we must plan carefully, using data and listening to families, so that changes meet the needs of students and communities,” she explained. Potential solutions may include implementing K–8 schools, adjusting transportation, or constructing new facilities in areas experiencing growth.
Addressing the role of technology in education, Solomon identified it as one of the most pressing issues facing the district. She recognizes the potential benefits of tools like artificial intelligence but stresses the importance of safeguarding student privacy and ensuring technology enhances rather than distracts from learning. “I would support investing in strong technical services, staff training, and clear policies so students can use technology wisely,” she noted.
As a board member, Solomon envisions her role as one of guidance, listening to the voices of students and families while ensuring that educational institutions remain focused on both safety and opportunities for academic excellence. Her approach aligns with a commitment to fostering innovation within the educational framework of the district.
With the election approaching, Solomon’s comprehensive strategy highlights her dedication to creating a supportive and effective learning environment for all students in the St. Vrain Valley School District.
