FREEPORT — The Illinois Freedom Project exhibit will open at 6 p.m. Jan. 16 at the Stephenson County Visitor Center, 4596 U.S. Highway 20 E.
Exhibit curator Tim Townsend will explain the history behind creating the exhibit, its significance in Illinois history and goals for impacting generations to come. The goal of the exhibit is to educate residents and visitors on historical stories of slavery and freedom.
Area schools from Stephenson, Jo Daviess and Carroll counties have been invited to participate in the exhibit and utilize Illinois Freedom Project curriculum in their classrooms free of charge.
The exhibit will remain open at the center until March 1.
