Tensions in the Middle East are increasing after the United States killed Iranian military leader and terrorist Qassem Soleimani in an airstrike.Thousands of American troops are heading to the region. Sherman McCorkle is part of the community support group for Kirtland Air Force Base. KOAT asked him about Soleimani. “Since 9/11, he was the mastermind behind so many of the attacks on American military in Iraq,” McCorkle said. McCorkle said what is so unique about Soleimani is that he was a military leader, and a terrorist. Even though this is half a world away, McCorkle said Americans should pay attention. “Yes, Americans should expect a serious repercussion at a point and time. Location completely unknown,” he said. KOAT contacted Kirtland Air Force Base and Cannon Air Force Base to see if any soldiers there are being deployed, or have been put on stand by. So far we have not heard back from spokespersons from either base.
