CHICAGO – Already a well-known restaurateur in Chicago, Louie Alexakis has opened his first in the downtown area, the Avli River North, to showcase his modern Greek food touch without forgetting the traditional that draw people to the cuisine.
Entering the competitive River North market means Alexakis and partners, Fox Chicago sports anchor Lou Cannelis and investor William Glastris Jr., went high end for their newest restaurant, said Chicago Eater in a review, which noted that, “the space is bright and breezy, in an effort to remind customers of a Greek vacation.”
Architect Thomas Montgomery designed a nuanced and subtler elegance for the restaurant, the story said, with the place having two levels, with 30 seats on the first floor and a 56-seat patio will open after the winter.
The restaurant serves a seven-course tasting menu, a family-style dinner, and an a la carte menu. The wine list is full of Greek options with plenty of natural selections. There’s also a few house cocktails.
Earlier this year he told a Chicago radio station: “Horiatiki salata is the most famous salad in the world,” when asked why so many people love their Greek food.
